Scuba Cat Diving Earth Day 2011, Phuket, Thailand

Calling all divers and water enthusiasts.

Take part in an activity that won’t cost the Earth for Project AWARE’s Dive For Earth Day 2011

Human activity is costing the Earth. And despite the oceans' vast expanse it is taking its toll on marine eco systems. But divers and water enthusiasts can choose an activity that won’t cost the earth by joining Scuba Cat Diving, Dive for Earth Day event, underwater clean up at Paradise beach, Patong on the 24th April 2011

Our underwater environments are under numerous threats including pollution, climate change, overfishing, and coral bleaching. Dive for Earth Day is an extraordinary opportunity to take action and help address the underwater issues that concern you most.

Scuba Cat Diving in partnership with Project AWARE is organizing a:

Beach and Underwater Cleanup

Divers, snorkelers, their families and friends can help make a difference for local dive sites by calling Scuba Cat Diving on 076 293120, or visiting our shop on Patong Beach Road or sending us an email at info@scubacat.com

Launched in the United States on 22 April 1970, Earth Day has raised environmental awareness on a global scale. Since the 30th anniversary of Earth Day in 2000, Project AWARE has helped divers put aquatic issues on the Earth Day map. Thousands of diver volunteers in more than 115 countries have helped protect underwater environments and educate local communities for Project AWARE’s Dive for Earth Day.

Project AWARE Foundation is a nonprofit organisation working with divers to conserve underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. Visit www.projectaware.org to support your local office and participate in environmental activities to make a lasting difference.

Racha Yai, Phuket, Thailand

Environment

Scuba_Cat_Diving/Phuket/Thailand/Marlas_Mystery/Dive_Sites

Scuba Cat Diving and Mike Stark (the original owner) created the first Artifical Reef at Racha Yai, 11th November 2000. The hull of a confiscated smuggling boat had been lying abandoned in a Phuket shipyard for years. This was a big boat, 34 meters long, and everything removable was long gone leaving behind a sterile and environmentally friendly potential artificial reef. A fair bit of work was involved patching the vessel for her final voyage, 15 years of shipyard fees paid and we were finally ready.

The Wreck, since named Marlas Mystery sits on the East Side of Racha Yai.

Plans are afoot to expand an artificial reef off the coast of Koh Racha Yai Island, south of Phuket.

Paitoon Panchaiyaphum, director of the Phuket based southern regional office of the Marine and Coastal Resources Conservation Department (MCRCD), said the artificial reef had been a great success since its construction three years ago.

The artificial reef currently comprises 300 concrete modules.

The office is planning to ask the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for a budget of 22 million baht to sink 3,000 more modules, expanding the reef structure tenfold.

The MCRCD also hopes to sink two boats donated by the The Racha resort on Koh Racha Yai.

We have since heard they plan to sink four boats, the first early next month, and to follow later some decommissioned army tanks.

PADI IDC

PADI IDC (Instructor Development Course)

Scuba Cat Diving have teamed up with Big Blue, Shanghai to launch a PADI IDC in Shanghai, China with PADI Platinum Course Director Christophe Pace.

Are you looking for something extraordinary? To do something others can only dream of? To help people transform their lives? To open doors you didn't even know existed? All of this, and more, awaits you as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program is one of two distinct components of PADI's Instructor Development Course (IDC) - the core of PADI Instructor training. The first portion is the Assistant Instructor course followed by the Open Water Scuba Instructor program.

The OWSI program introduces you to the entire PADI System of diver education and concentrates on further developing your abilities as a professional dive educator.

The fun part of instructor training is interacting with course participants while creating friendships that continue long after the course concludes.

You'll begin networking with other professionals and begin to explore PADI Pro Diving Jobs worldwide. You'll also have the opportunity to continue your professional education by participating in specialty instructor courses, which train you to teach specialties after instructor certification.
